Who We Are

Posted 10 January 2011 by

Our family began when two neighbor kids met and over 14 years became best friends and fell in love and got married.  Joshua’s family has a farm ( see www.forgetmenotfarms.org ) and I (Ali) began working on the farm full time in 2006.  Joshua’s mom Lois also has a floral business linked with the farm and I (having always loved working with flowers from childhood) jumped right in and loved working with weddings flowers.   Arranging flowers was as easy as breathing and I felt very alive when I was working with flowers.   I enjoyed learning more about formal floral work from my mother-in-law and we spent many hours creating beautiful weddings together on the farm.   I will always treasure her impact on my life and her introducing me to this business, and ultimately encouraging me to go and make my own business doing what she had taught me.  When Joshua and I got married in 2009 we decided that a move was needed for him to attend school in the Seattle area.   We quickly realized that commuting to Whidbey Island would not work for me to continue in Forget Me Not Farms Floral Design, but I greatly missed working on wedding flowers.   In the Summer of 2010 after I had done flowers for some family and friends, my mother in law suggested that I should think about beginning my own home business creating wedding flowers.  Over the years, I have had the opportunity to create wedding flowers for many family members and friends and have traveled from New York to San Fransisco working on many weddings.  I  have a wonderful team (including my sweet husband – whose farming experience makes him a great asset when working with flowers and even growing greens and flowers for our wedding work) and have been continuing my joy of creating wedding flowers in our new City since 2010.  Joshua and I are becoming more and more passionate about local and natural living, and we desire to carry this over to our floral work using as many local growers and natural or organic flowers when requested or we are able.  We grow lots of our own greens and many flowers in our yard as well and working with farmer’s markets in our area.   We desire to make weddings more about the relationship than the extravagant spending usually associated with weddings today, and so we try to keep our costs as low as possible.  One of our biggest desires in having this home business is to help us earn money to adopt children who need a good home in the near future.

We hope that this gives you an idea of who we are as people and a budding business – and if you would like to work with us in planning and facilitating your wedding dreams in any way please let us know!
